The summer before my sophomore year of high school, I came to Nashville for the first time. My mom was attending a conference for work and I decided to tag along. It was the week Taylor Swift released “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and I didn’t know what to expect from this trip.
After landing at the airport and grabbing our baggage, we hopped into a taxi and my mom told the driver that we were heading to the Gaylord. I remember thinking, “What the heck is a Gaylord?” As we got closer, my mom pointed out the humongous building sitting on the side of Briley Parkway, which was the hotel we were staying at. It was magnificent!
Over the week that we stayed in the Gaylord Opryland Resort, I explored the hotel while my mom was in seminars every day. I knew the hotel like the back of my hand. I enjoyed the food, the boutiques, the pool, and the spa. Additionally, while we were in Nashville, we took a trip to downtown and drove around Belmont University for the very first time.
Since I came to Nashville in August 2015, I haven’t had the chance to return to the Gaylord Opryland Resort until now. After work on Sunday night, my coworkers and I decided to head over to the Gaylord to grab food and drinks. Luckily, that week over 7 years ago helped me maneuver through the hallways and pathways of the 2.1 million square feet of the Gaylord. We checked out the Delta Fountain Show, Paisano’s Pizzeria & Vino, and Fuse Sports Bar.
If you’re vacationing in Nashville or just stopping by, walking through the Gaylord is a must-do! The hotel has continued to grow since it’s opening in 1977. This summer, I hope to return to the Gaylord to experience their waterpark, Soundwaves.

When we lived in Bowling Green for 6 years, we would go to the Opryland Hotel regularly. It is breathtaking! Some of my favorite photos were taken there. Of course the theme park was still operating back then:) Enjoy!
