the mom-shamers come out to play

Thanks to Coronavirus, people have been spending more and more time on social media. Some of these people have spent their time becoming more judgemental and hateful. I can’t turn on social media without seeing someone attacked for living their life.

A recent victim to the mom-shamers is Maren Morris. Since Morris gave birth to her son, Hayes Andrew Hurd, on March 23rd, she and her husband, Ryan Hurd, have shared many photos of their son on social media to their million-plus fans around the world. At the beginning of the month, Morris shared a photo captioned “Motor floatin'” of her and her son on a float at a lake wearing matching bathing suits.

Quickly after, comments flooded about how Hayes was not wearing a life jacket and insisted that Maren was putting her son in harm’s way. Ryan Hurd then took to Twitter and stood up for his wife, saying:

And Morris followed with:

I hated seeing that the opportunity to share her son with the world was taken from her. These artists, actors/actresses, and others in the spotlight have their lives so heavily criticized by the media that they sometimes don’t have time to enjoy the small things.

Shortly after, Morris hid all photos of her son from her Instagram page, but yesterday, a new picture was posted. Unfortunately, commenting is limited to certain people, but I also noticed that the “Motor floatin'” picture had been reposted.

As women, we should all continue to lift each other up. Mothers should not be shaming other mothers for not raising their kids the same way. Every parent has a different style of parenting, and it’s not our job to tell them how to parent.
